Amazon unveils Tomb Raider: Catalyst first look; 1996 remake set for 2026
Amazon Game Studios and Crystal Dynamics used The Game Awards to reveal Tomb Raider: Catalyst, a new mainline entry launching in 2027, and announce Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a modern reimagining of Lara Croft’s 1996 debut arriving in 2026. Alix Wilton Regan (Dragon Age: Inquisition, Cyberpunk 2077, Mass Effect 3) performs voice and motion capture for Lara in both titles.

- Story: As rival treasure hunters flood the region, Lara races to expose the truth beneath a fractured landscape and stop those seeking to exploit its power. She must decide who to trust among allies and adversaries to avert catastrophe and protect a secret that could reshape the future.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis (2026)
- Premise: A modern reimagining of Lara’s 1996 debut with fresh surprises that honor the original’s spirit and atmosphere.
- Development: Co-developed by Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog, powered by Unreal Engine 5.
- Gameplay: Explore exotic, long-lost locations; traverse treacherous terrain; solve deadly contraptions; and face lethal predators while hunting the scattered pieces of the Scion, an artifact of immense power.
Franchise expansion and development approach
- Amazon MGM Studios is also producing a live-action Tomb Raider TV series starring Sophie Turner as Lara Croft.
- Crystal Dynamics head of studio Scot Amos says the two games and the TV series are being developed in parallel with a shared core DNA, each tailored to its medium. Two dedicated teams within Fellowship Entertainment are building the games, sharing technologies and gameplay systems under a unified leadership to maintain franchise canon.
- This structure enables Legacy of Atlantis to land in 2026, aligning with Tomb Raider’s 30th anniversary, with Catalyst to follow in 2027 at the scope the project requires.
