Larian Studios, the developer behind Baldur's Gate 3, has brought Divinity: Original Sin II to modern consoles, launching today on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. Existing owners on Switch, PS4, or Xbox One can claim a free Upgrade Pack to move to the new version. In Japan, the upgrade costs a nominal ¥100 (about $0.64).

Key details:

  • Release date: December 15, 2025
  • Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2
  • Upgrade: Free for previous-gen owners (¥100 in Japan)
  • Pricing: Standard $50; limited-time deals at $17.50 on Xbox, $25 on Switch, and $15 on PlayStation
  • Nature of release: Not a remake or remaster; positioned as the current-gen way to play Divinity: Original Sin II

Originally released in 2016 as a sequel to Divinity: Original Sin, the turn-based tactical RPG became a critical darling, earning a 10/10 from GameSpot and widespread acclaim from fans.

Larian also teased its next Divinity game at The Game Awards with a striking CGI announcement trailer. The studio says the new title will feature a completely new story while maintaining some continuity and returning characters. There is no release date yet, but Larian calls it the biggest game the studio has ever made. The reveal was tied to Geoff Keighley’s mysterious monolith tease during the show.

If you own Divinity: Original Sin II on last-gen consoles, grab the free Upgrade Pack now. New players can take advantage of launch discounts across platforms.
