Chrome for iOS to get a guided Safari data migration feature - 9to5Mac
Switching from Safari to Chrome on iPhone is about to get much easier. Google is testing an on-device, guided importer for iOS that moves your Safari data directly into Chrome—no desktop required.
How it works: The import flow uses the ZIP file created by Safari’s Export Browsing Data (iPhone Settings > Apps > Safari). Chrome then walks you through what to bring over and where it will be stored, noting: "Your data will be saved to your Google Account."
What you can import:
- Passwords
- Credit cards
- Browsing history
- Bookmarks
Privacy and safety: After the import finishes, Chrome warns that the exported ZIP contains sensitive information and offers a one-tap option to delete it immediately.
Availability: The feature is currently being tested in Chrome 145 via TestFlight. With Chrome 144 as the current stable release, a wider public rollout is likely in the coming weeks.
Quick start:
- In Safari settings, tap Export Browsing Data to create the ZIP
- Open Chrome and start the Safari import
- Choose which items to migrate and confirm
- Delete the exported file when prompted
