Google and YouTube return to Movies Anywhere, here’s how to re-link your account - 9to5Google
Google Play and YouTube are back on Movies Anywhere: how to re-link your account
After a brief Google–Disney standoff that paused Movies Anywhere support for Google Play and YouTube, both services are live again. Here’s what changed and how to reconnect in minutes.
What happened
- Disney, which owns Movies Anywhere, quietly removed Google as a partner around the time YouTube TV temporarily lost Disney-owned channels.
- While the carriage dispute lasted only a couple of weeks, Movies Anywhere users went nearly two months without Google Play or YouTube syncing.
- As of today, Google is reinstated as a partner, but most users will need to re-link their accounts.
How to re-link your Movies Anywhere and Google accounts
Method 1: Use the email link (fastest)
- Check your inbox for Movies Anywhere’s announcement email.
- Click the restore link, sign in to your Movies Anywhere account, choose Connect, select your Google account, and confirm.
Method 2: Re-link via Movies Anywhere settings
- Go to moviesanywhere.com and sign in.
- Open Settings from the top-right menu.
- Select Manage Retailers.
- Click Connect next to Google’s listing.
- Choose your Google account and approve the connection.
Good to know
- Many users will need to reconnect even if their library looked synced after Google was removed; some accounts now show a complete sever.
- After reconnecting, verify two-way sync by checking that recent purchases appear in both Movies Anywhere and Google Play or YouTube.
- If you use multiple Google accounts, confirm you selected the right one during setup.
The status now
With Disney titles back on Google services and Google restored in Movies Anywhere, the 2025 Google–Disney feud appears to be over. Still, the rivalry could spark again—especially with the Oscars slated to stream on YouTube starting in 2029.
