Google app finally redesigns voice search on Android - 9to5Google
Google is rolling out a modern redesign of voice search in the Android Google app, bringing a cleaner look, clearer controls, and smarter song search.
How it works
- Access voice search from the homescreen widget (including Pixel Launcher) or any Google Search bar in the app
- Queries still open a standard Search results page and are read aloud
What’s new in the interface
- Centered G gradient header with a back arrow and an overflow menu linking to Voice settings
- Updated Voice settings: choose languages, toggle spoken results, and select a voice (Cosmo, Neso, Terra, Cassini)
- Refreshed dark theme for a more consistent look
- Listening screen keeps the familiar face illustration and adds a four-color arc inspired by AI Mode and Search Live, with live transcription above it
Smarter song search
- Larger Search a song button leading to a Play, Sing, Hum interface (replacing the old globe animation)
- Quick shortcut to Song Search history in the top-right
Availability
- Rolling out now in Google app v17.1 (stable) and v17.2 (beta)
- Gradual release; not yet widely available
- A broader refresh of the text search UI could follow
