Google has unveiled Disco, a Gemini-powered experiment that turns your open browser tabs into interactive web apps called GenTabs. Designed to make research, planning, and learning more actionable, Disco suggests apps based on what you’re viewing and lets you build your own with simple written prompts.

What Disco and GenTabs do

  • Proactively suggest interactive web apps tailored to your current tabs
  • Generate custom apps on the fly using Gemini 3, your open tabs, and your Gemini chat history
  • Let you refine the app with natural language commands after it’s created
  • Link generated elements back to the original sources for transparency

How you might use it

  • Study smarter: Build a visualization app to understand complex topics
  • Plan meals: Turn recipe tabs into a ready-made meal planner
  • Organize trips: Convert travel research into an interactive itinerary tool

Why it matters
Rather than launching a standalone AI browser like Perplexity’s Comet or ChatGPT Atlas, Google is weaving AI directly into browsing. With GenTabs, Disco looks beyond a single page to understand your overall task across multiple tabs—making the web feel more like a workspace you can shape on demand.

Availability and what’s next

  • Early access: Limited to a small group of testers via Google Labs
  • Platform: macOS first (waitlist required to download the app)
  • Roadmap: GenTabs is the first feature under Disco, with more experiments planned. Google says successful ideas could graduate into larger products.
