LG quietly adds an unremovable Microsoft Copilot app to some smart TVs
LG smart TV owners are reporting a new, permanent resident on their home screens: Microsoft’s Copilot app. Multiple Reddit posts and Engadget tests suggest it’s being pushed to select models without an option to uninstall.
What’s happening
- Engadget staffers found Copilot preinstalled on a 2022 LG OLED and a 2023 UA8000. The app cannot be removed but can be hidden from the home screen.
- A separate 2022 LG OLED unit didn’t show the app, indicating availability may depend on existing permissions and privacy settings.
- LG previously said during the 2025 CES season that upcoming TVs would feature Copilot-powered AI Search, hinting at a broader AI push.
