New Custodes: Your Questions Answered - Warhammer Community
Yes—the new Adeptus Custodes miniatures include women. Here’s what that means for the lore and your collection.
-
Are there female Custodes now?
Yes. The latest Custodes range features both male and female models. Earlier helmetless sculpts skewed obviously male, while heavily armored figures made gender unclear. -
Is this a change to the setting?
It clarifies, rather than rewrites, the lore. Space Marines (Adeptus Astartes) are exclusively male by design. Custodes, however, are not Space Marines. -
How are Custodes different from Space Marines?
Custodes are taken as infants and transformed through bespoke, arcane bio-engineering—each Guardian is a unique masterpiece. The Emperor personally oversaw this process until the events of the Horus Heresy. -
Weren’t Custodes made from the sons of Terran nobles?
Partly. The Imperium drew symbolically from patriarchal noble houses by taking first-born sons. But that wasn’t the only pipeline: other overt and covert methods existed, and noble daughters could also be selected. As the Imperium grew, diverse recruitment sources were necessary. -
Do male and female Custodes differ in battle?
No. All Custodians, regardless of sex, embody the pinnacle of the Emperor’s genetic craft. There is no difference in combat performance. -
Can I become a Custodes?
No. If you’re old enough to read this, you’re already far past eligibility.
Bottom line: The models now reflect what the lore allows—Adeptus Custodes can be male or female, and they are all equally formidable.
