Red Dead Redemption 2 Character Referenced In New GTA Online Update - RockstarINTEL
GTA Online’s latest update, A Safehouse in the Hills, adds opulent, multi-level mansions with deep customization—and hides a clever Red Dead Redemption 2 Easter egg.
The standout discovery: a painting called In The Shade credited to C. Châtenay. That name is a direct nod to Charles Châtenay, the French painter featured in Red Dead Redemption 2’s The Artist’s Way mission. The artwork itself matches a painting seen inside Braithwaite Manor, as noted by GTA Wiki—another classic Rockstar cross-game reference.
Rockstar has a long history of weaving its worlds together, from RDR2 screenshots appearing in GTA Online to GTA 6 cash notes featuring in-universe presidents. This new reference continues that playful tradition.
How to find the painting in your mansion:
- Go inside your mansion.
- Open the Interaction Menu > Mansion Management.
- Select Customisation > Decorations.
- Choose Entrance Painting and scroll to the bottom to find In The Shade by C. Châtenay.
There’s also a tantalizing hint about what’s next: after completing the latest missions, including the Michael mission that follows, you receive a phone call from Mr Faber—suggesting another DLC with more missions could arrive before GTA 6 launches.
